Foods That Fight The Flu

As the old saying goes, "food is medicine". We tend to realize this to be true during cold and flu season -- perfect timing. Some foods can help us feel better by keeping us hydrated, giving us more energy, or even helping us get better faster.

Nothing is worse than feeling run down while having to work or even taking care of other people in the house who are sick. So the foods we're about to talk about will be beneficial for you and the whole family.

Foods With Fighting Power

  • Chicken Soup.

It's not a myth that a warm chicken soup can help you feel better. It's a great source of protein, amino acids, and electrolytes. The warmth even helps with congestion.

  • Garlic.

This spice has been used for many centuries to help treat illness. This is because garlic enhances immune function, helping to fight bacteria, viral, and even fungal infections.

  • Coconut Water.

Between the quick fruit energy and the electrolytes, coconut water is an alternative hydration source to water.

  • Hot Tea -- a fan favorite.

Many people love having a cup of tea when they're feeling sick. Some herbs soothe sore throats, others help aid digestion, but many offer anti-inflammatory benefits.

  • Ginger.

It's widely used for calming upset stomachs and is known to support and boost immune function.

  • Oatmeal.

It's not the most flavorful, but it's full of calories, vitamins, and minerals -- a great combo for anyone who's sick.

The next time you're feeling sick or you can sense something is about to come on, try adding some of these foods to your diet for the coming days. Hopefully, you start to feel better or be able to recover faster!
